THE CALL TO SOLITUDE
Into the Silence of God
Not every vocation leads to a visible mission or growing community. Some are called instead to vanish into the silence of God.

Though the Hermits of St. Mary of Carmel no longer receive new members, their life of prayer and reparation continues quietly on the land consecrated to Our Lady.

In the silence of the hermitage, they offer themselves in union with the Crucified Christ for the needs of the Church and the salvation of souls. Their life, though unseen, is united to the Mystical Body. Their vocation is measured by fidelity: fidelity to God, to their vows, to the Blessed Virgin Mary, and to the Church that governs and sustains them.

The Church has always cherished the eremitic life, which shines forth through its hidden union with Christ.

Today, the Hermits of St. Mary of Carmel continue this silent preaching through their ongoing life of consecration. They pray daily for Holy Mother Church, for the intentions of their Bishop, and especially for the sanctification of priests—that each may live in purity and holiness for the glory of God and the salvation of souls.
“We ask for nothing but to remain hidden
in the Heart of the Church,
where we may burn with love for Him
in the name of those who do not.”
Hospitality to Priests
Through God’s providence, the Hermitage includes a number of simple, furnished hermitages within nearly 500 acres of a beautiful bluff top location. These may be made available for priests seeking time apart with God. In the quiet of Carmel, they may enter for a little while into the solitude that the Sisters live day by day.
